Susan Jeanes, CEO of the Australian Geothermal Energy Association, has agreed to speak on the evening of Tuesday 17 June 2008 at the Pilgrim Centre Hall, 12 Flinders Street, Adelaide, commencing at 6:30pm.
Susan will overview the geothermal energy industry in Australia and in particular the progress that is being made towards commercialising this renewable resource, especially in South Australia. This is a non-profit event, although we do ask participants for a small contribution in order to offset carbon emissions generated by the event and to pay for venue hire.

A large renewable resource on the brink of commercialisation – in our own State
Presenter SUSAN JEANES CEO, Australian Geothermal Energy Association
Susan Jeanes has had extensive experience representing the interests of the Australian renewable energy industry to government as the Chief Executive of the Renewable Energy Generators of Australia from 2004-07 and has previously worked as a consultant to progressive energy companies. Susan has also spent over fifteen years in the political arena, serving in the Federal Parliament as the Liberal Member for Kingston and working as an Advisor to the former Environment and Heritage Minister Robert Hill on climate change and energy policy. Susan has tertiary qualifications in political science and is a Director of The Climate Institute and a member of the CSIRO’s Energy and Transport Advisory Council.
In this presentation Ms Jeanes will provide an overview of activity in the geothermal energy industry and in particular the wide range of projects that are in varying stages of development within South Australia. As with any emerging industry, there are a number of significant challenges facing the sector. Susan will outline the measures that the industry is adopting in order to surmount these hurdles and bring geothermal energy to the market.
